The black cat was originally an IWW (International Workers of the World, or the "Wobblies") symbol that was used to encourage the slow down, or "striking while remaining on the job." It became a more general symbol for labor militancy, and has lately become a symbol used by workers organizing unions at Starbucks and Pizza Hut. For an intriguing history of the black cat (Sabo-Tabby) symbol and its association with the Wobblies and other militant labor organizations -- including what it DOESN'T mean -- read this: www.iww.org/history/icons/blac…. Interestingly enough, the original IWW black cat symbol was probably conceived by none other than Ralph Chaplin, the author of the IWW/labor anthem "Solidarity Forever." Thus, this piece is best viewed while listening to this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCnEAH…

You should make a shirt out of this. I'd wear it proudly.
