You should watch President Eisenhower's farewell address in 1961 warning of the dangers to American democracy and liberty of the rise of the military-industrial complex: [link]. And here's an assessment of what's happened 50 years later: [link].

His presidency was over, what else was he supposed to do?

Also, it was the last day of his presidency when he announced this. If anyone is to be at fault it is successors for not listening to Ike.

Once something gains a certain amount of money, stopping it would be like trying to arm wrestle Godzilla.

One point to discuss would be Gun and army advertisement in games and films for example :

How american weaponry is overall displayed more powerful in games.
Not all the time, but there's a very notable tendency in games produced in the "western" world when compared to games produced elsewhere and when compared the performance irl - the most popular example would be the M4a1 which on average is displayed better than the Ak-47 or the Ak-12.

an older example would be the display of guns like the Thompson, Tanks like the M4 Sherman or planes like the F4u in media.

With very popular media like the Call of Duty and the Battlefield Franchises, films like Top Gun and American Sniper you even have examples of media that show biases very openly.

Other points which we could discuss would be things like the glorification of war criminals or the testing of new weaponry like biological weapons (which you could also take as "behind the scenes")

The military is up to a certain extend "behind the scenes" - neither completely concealed nor do they show and describe everything that is going on to people like us.

Eisenhower had 8 full years to keep the Military-Industrial Complex on a short leash. He didn't do very well on that...

You know, if I spent my time worrying about sophomoric idiots like titanicfan1000 I'd never get anything done.  He's obtuse and misses the critical point, preferring, because he is such a special person, to focus instead on his nitpicking revisionism.  The point is that Ike warned us about the military-industrial complex that has come to pass, and more.  That's the point, not whether or not Ike beat Hitler with or without the help of the Soviets.  That's the point, whether or not Ike authorized the U-2 flight in 1960 that got shot down just before the Geneva summit with the Soviets.

People like titanticfan1000 apparently spend most of their time perusing the work of others in an effort to find one little thing that they feel they can successfully challenge, and then try to make the case that they're right (debatable) and that their one little claimed victory invalidates the main point being made.  That's a logical fallacy.

I really don't have time for this sort of bullshit, and if titanticfan1000 had bothered to read my Policy Statement before posting, he would have understood that I consider people like him to be trolls, and trolls get banned from my gallery.  I have said this many times before and I will say it again: I don't intrude on the work of others, especially those with whom I disagree, and so, I expect the same courtesy in return.  If anyone disagrees with the political point I am making, they are free to create their own art and post it in their own gallery.  Simply because they think they have a point does not give them the right to insist that I debate with them.  I'm just not interested.  If anyone has a problem with that, they shouldn't visit my gallery.  I could care less about what they think, and neither, I believe, do the more than 1,000 deviants who watch me regularly.

I wished there would be a way to revive this person. He was a true leader in every way. If he would be alive today he would not recognize gis own political party. (although I read he just entered on the republican side as a presidential candidate because the previous 12 years there was a democratic presiden an he thought a change was needed, so you could say he was a democratic-republican president)

Say what you like about Ike, he did have the foresight to be alarmed about the MIC. They're power and influence seems to be growing all the time.

Everyone is focusing way to much on a very generic and general statement about defeating hitler and not on the point of the poster, his serious and nearly prophetic warning about the military industrial complex.

Technically Hitler committed suicide, that being said it was because we attacked Berlin. I do agree I think Eisenhower would be disappointed in the republican party today....

Dude, you know, in the Soviet Union in each family there were losses on that war. Mothers, fathers, grandfathers, brothers... In. Each. Family.
So ur "I beat Hitler" - ahahahahaha.

It doesn't say "I beat hitler single handedly" or "I beat hitler alone"..technically anyone who served in any capacity of the war effort for any nation or group opposed to hitler can say, "I beat hitler" and its still accurate.

The point of the poster isn't about who was more important in beating hitler, but the warning against the dangers of giving too much political power to the military industrial complex.

Why? Does it really matter who contributed more? Which country's troops had the most impact?
I've never encountered this debate before over which country did more to win WWII.

It seems more like people reacting to what they perceive as American Glorification, when that really has nothing to do with this poster.

I have never heard, in an history class, anyone say the U.S. alone, or Russia alone, or Britain alone, won WWII.

I've always encountered the same "the Allies", the allies, the allies. Which includes Russia, which seems to be the primary country that people on here are responding with.

So why is it a touchy subject?

I think Eisenhower would be pissed to see just what his Republican party became. This is the guy who built the interstate highway system and to see modren GOP refuse to make a WPA program repairing them would enrage him.
