One out of four women will be assaulted by a man, one in five will be raped, and one-third of women who are victims of homicide will be killed by an intimate partner. Almost three-quarters (73%) of women who are victims of sexual violence are victimized by someone known to them. It is estimated that domestic violence occurs in approximately 25-33% of same-sex relationships. Boys who witness their fathers' violence are 10 times more likely to engage in spouse abuse in later adulthood than boys from non-violent homes. Somewhere in America a woman is battered, usually by her intimate partner, every 15 seconds. A study reported in the New York Times suggests that one in five adolescent girls become the victims of physical or sexual violence, or both, during dating relationships.
