Vaclav Havel was a Czech playwright, essayist, poet, dissident and politician, and non-violent revolutionary, who led the successful Velvet Revolution against Czech Communism 1989. His works on civil resistance and civil disobedience remain textbooks for others nonviolently struggling against oppressive regimes, police state tactics, and the repression of free expression.
