This deviation was prompted by the lopsided Republican vote against the Smith-Amash Amendment in the U.S. House of Representative today, May 18, 2012. The amendment would have repealed Section 1021 of the NDAA. Section 1021 authorizes the President to indefinitely detain American citizens in military custody for alleged "terrorist" acts or support for "terrorist" organizations. Two days ago a Federal judge issued an injunction against this section of NDAA, saying that it violates both the First and Fifth Amendments of the Bill of Rights.

Yesterday, in an unrelated vote, the House Republicans voted to prevent Federal funds authorized for the Violence Against Women Act from being spent to assist Native American women on reservations, or, to assist lesbians and transgendered people.

If you are not outraged, you're not paying attention. I pledge eternal hostility and unremitting political warfare against the Republican Party and its minions of repression and reaction.

UPDATE: The Republicans voted against Smith-Amash by a margin of 219-19. The Democrats voted for the amendment by a margin of 163-19. Interestingly, apparently a few GOP Tea Party Caucus members voted for the amendment because of civil liberties concerns. Ron Paul also voted for the amendment. You can see the final tally here: [link]

"I pledge eternal hostility and unremitting political warfare against the Republican Party and its minions of repression and reaction."

You know. . . Obama DID sign the NDAA into law. In fact, it came out in the congressional record that he demanded section 1021 apply to US Citizens. I think it's something of a waste of time to rally against one political party whilst ignoring the abuses of the other one. All you'll end up is with a liberal SOUNDING police state, rather than a conservative SOUNDING police state. The idea that there is any significant difference between parties has been long since defeated.

To be honest, I'm surprised the Democrats actually took a stand on this one, as the Democrats are typically not for civil liberties anymore since their man is in the White House. A lot of Democratic affiliated people have suddenly turned vehemently pro-war so long as it's "Obama's war", which is sad.

Personally, I think the problem is bi-partisan, and only by looking at America in a post-partisan fashion, will we unite and strike down nasty stuff like the NDAA section 1021, and other unAmerican, unConstitutional, unacceptable stuff like it. If all we're doing is bickering between the two parties, we'll be waltzing right off a cliff.

You're right of course. I've been equally hard on Obama. If you browse my gallery, you will see many deviations that take him and the Democrats on a well. I have no love for the Democrats any longer, except for their usefulness in causing problems for the Republicans. I just sent Obama my resignation letter. I'm done.

Hey Poaster, glad to run into ya again had a question about propaganda: you know how conservatives scream that a democrat is being a "liberal nazi" even though nazis were right wing? Does that mean a democrat could call a republican a "conservative pinko"? What the heck would a conservative pinko be anyway? Sounds kind of silly, no?

I don't think that's the issue here, although there is a large segment of Republicans who hate the President because he's not as white as they are. I think they did this to be able to claim that "we're tough on terrorists, and the Democrats coddle terrorists." I also think they did it because, despite their "small government" rhetoric, they're big government statists when it comes to national security issues.

True. It's just frustrating to hear this all the time. I wish people would know what small government really is.

You obviously haven't taken a look at the other work in my gallery. But calling me a "delusional tool, misguided, naive, and gullible" in MY GALLERY is not a way to win friends and influence people.

I'm going to make another poster today, just for you. It will read: "And when the Lord God had finished making the Gila monster, the black widow spider, and the asp, with that residuum of malice and evil that remained in the world, from it He fashioned the Republican Party." Unfortunately, you won't be able to leave any comments on that one. Banned.

yeah... i might get flamed for saying this, but i think the Demacrats are just as bad as the Republicans. its just that the GoP is being blunt about it and the Democrats are using it against them which leads to some promises that they have to keep.

Do it. I don't typically get too bent out a shape by the shenanigans in Washington, especially in the House, but this vote, two days after a Federal judge ruled this section of NDAA likely to be unconstitutional on first and fifth amendment grounds makes me think that we are already in a war to preserve basic civil liberties in this country, and that every one of us who simply want what the constitution guarantees must get involved NOW.

My friends always keep saying I should be President.
But if that's not possible I'll try to get Congresswoman.

If I did get to run for President my slogan would be something like: "I can't guarantee miracles. I can't guarantee that I'll be able to fix everything that Congress has done. I will not be able to make all of you happy. But I do know that I will do my best and do what I can."

That's a good motto, actually.

Too many presidential candidates make promises they can't keep. Why?

Because the people who actually DO vote tend not to elect those who don't promise to singlehandedly save the world.

Much of the voting public just expects too much from the president.

The government really disappoints me. I mean seriously. Wouldn't it be better to be completely honest and say that you will do what you can and not promise miracles?

They are only human after all. Things will get better, but only if people are honest, cooperate, and do their share of work.
As someone I know once put it:
"One does not simply fix an economy in recession."
