Let me see if I understand this. You could say that this pic is women poking fun at themselves, not men degrading women. Women are strong and don't care what others say, they will still vote.

This poaster was inspired by Sandra Fluke, a then Georgetown University law student who spoke before the U.S. House Democratic Caucus in February 2012 against Georgetown's plan NOT to pay for contraception as a part of its health plan because Georgetown is a Catholic institution that opposes contraception in any form.  Subsequently, she was viciously attacked by Rush Limbaugh on his national radio show, who called her, among other things, a "slut," and accused her of promiscuity.  You can read more about Ms. Fluke here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandra_F… and here content.time.com/time/specials….

It's a reference to Rush Limbaugh calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" because she testified to Congress in favor of mandating employers to provide birth control in their group insurance plans. The country was rightfully outraged, and some feminists then took on the sobriquet "slut" as a show of solidarity with Ms. Fluke. You can read more here: [link]

With all due respect -- the current voting system is absolutely rigged. The ONLY people who can get anywhere near close to having any chance in hell of "winning" are the ones who can get tens of millions of dollars in campaign backing. The SAME backers fund BOTH SIDES and so they are all loyal to corporate agendas. There were only two presidents in world history that did not play ball with the powers that be. Abraham Lincoln and JFK.

If you think the former got killed due to "issues of slavery" do a little more research and you'll see what both AL and JFK had in common.

BOTH not only OPPOSED the Central Bankers but tried to TAKE THEM DOWN by creating equity-based currency instead of fiat money which is legal tender, backed by nothing.

LINCOLN: The Greenback
JFK: The Silver Certificate

And if you're still not convinced:

Rigged USA Elections Exposed
World History They REFUSE To Teach In Schools

But look on the bright side: what I'm saying can't be true because, I didn't say it on FOX NEWS: Unfair and Bias.

I mean, those guys never lie, do they? :D

Your post has nothing to do with women' rights. If you want to push your agenda, do it in your own gallery, not here.

Love it!

The thing is, I don't get why women are viewed as the 'weaker' sex. Being a woman, I believe girls are better than boys. I don't believe any one gender, race, religion, etc. is superior. They are all equal. So, what gives?

It goes back as long as historical records do. A patriarchal society emerged as a result of biological differences. Women bore the children, and the men defended their families. Women raised the children, and men went off to war and trade and dozens of other things. It began with a group of people (the men) wanting to protect those they loved, but like everything else in human history, it got out of hand. For all of history, until the modern age, the majority of societies were based on tradition rather than logic. By the time society had evolved to point where women could achieve the same freedoms as men, the traditionalists repressed them. They wanted society to continue on as it always had, and by keeping women where they liked them to be, they could achieve some semblance of security. To them, it was justifiable and natural. As far as they knew (or cared to know) that's how it was supposed to be.

When logic triumphed over tradition, everything changed. There was no reason that a woman couldn't be everything a man could. People realized that the only difference between men and women was their biology. A man can be a stay-at-home parent, and a woman can be a scientist. A man can be a secretary and a woman can be a priest. Society had created roles for each sex, but over time these roles became unnecessary and uncomfortable.

Basically, there is no legitimate reason to deny anyone anything. We are all human beings, regardless of sex, religion, wealth, sexual orientation, or ethnicity. Race is a myth. Male superiority is a myth. We are one, tiny world in the midst of a massive universe. There is only one label that is true for every person on Earth, and that label is "human being". We are all equal. Our differences are imaginary.

To answer your question extremely simply, people want to believe that their religion, ideology, philosophy, sex, or race is the absolute best, so they attack anything that contradicts it to maintain that illusion. That's why women are oppressed, that's why non-whites are oppressed, and that's why non-heterosexuals are oppressed.

The word "slut" is used because of Rush Limbaugh's attack on a Georgetown University student who supports birth control. He called he "slut" and worse on his radio show. Many of us have adopted the word to protest what the Republicans are actually doing in Arizona, DC, an at other locations around the US.

Thanks. If you search it, you can listen to Limbaugh's tirade. It's quite impressive really that about 20-25% of the country actually believe this.

For the upteenth time, it is not art theft. . .the original image is in the public domain. And, it is not sexist unless protesting sexism is sexist.

So, no, I won't remove it. Much easier to simply remove you. Bye-bye.

What you're suggesting as a method isn't "poastering." Please read my latest journal entry for an explanation of what I do and why I do it this way.

I've made it clear from the very beginning that this gallery isn't for free discussion of everything anyone decides to post here. This gallery is for the dissemination of agit-prop with a distinctly progressive point of view and for the support of those who share those views. I am not going to provide a venue for reactionaries and trolls to spew their garbage -- they may do so in their own galleries.

Maybe you don't take me or my work seriously. Fine. Simple suggestion: DON'T LOOK AT IT.

My reply here is not an invitation to continued discussion. Capice?

I understand your confusion. This poaster does NOT call women "sluts." This poaster ridicules and attempts to shame those people who do. I would never use this objectionable word in conversation. I use it here to defend the cause of women's rights an equality.

You can't retain any copyrights because "Rosie the Riveter" (originally titled "We Can Do It!") isn't your original work; only the words are your own composition. You not giving any credit to artist J. Howard Miller who created this image in 1942 makes you not only a poser but also a liar.

No self-respecting intelligent woman would stand behind or proliferate a maxim like this, it's degrading and an insult to the hard-working women of the era this image was designed to embody.

You are so wrong on both counts. The original was paid for by the US Government. That means the work is in the public domain. That means that when I I compose the words and put them on the image, that creation is mine. See how it works?

Second, why the ad hominem attack? Totally unnecessary, rude, and a bannable offense in this gallery, and so, you are.

Sorry, I don't think this poster is advocating female is superior to male in any sense. "This slut votes." Men also vote. Does anti-misogyny mean misandry? I don't think so. Anyway.

Thank you so much for this. I don't see what the issue here is. I think some people make the anti-misogyny = misandry "argument" because they don't like what the poaster speaks to, and they have nothing else with which to rebut the argument except this specious assertion.

To Eozon:

You said, "Not so much."
Hmm... that means you still think this poster is misandry...

Guess women holding up guns and fists somehow makes you feel uncomfortable... ?
If you really think fighting back misogyny = misandry, fine... :tears: :tears:

To poasterchild:

I just spoke from my head. Though I'm a female, I'm always trying my best to be as subjective as possible when it comes to gender issues...
